The House Is Still Standing, Drama Queens
The White House is still standing. The adjectives didn't make it.
CNN
The East Wing came down for a ballroom. "Destroying the White House" was the sales copy.

What they sold
October 2025. Wrecking equipment hits the East Wing. CNN ran it day by day, including "Photos show entirety of the White House's East Wing torn down." Across the media and the Democratic Party, the phrase of the week was that Trump was destroying the White House.
What the record shows
Facts first, because FNN doesn't fake it. The East Wing and much of the East Colonnade really were demolished starting October 20, 2025. It was largely done by October 23. The privately funded ballroom's price tag went from $200 million to about $300 million (NBC). Preservation groups objected to tearing it down before public review, and the White House said plans would go to the National Capital Planning Commission.
So the receipts don't support "hoax" in the sense of "it didn't happen." It happened. What's spin is the word destroying. The Executive Residence, the West Wing and the Oval are still standing. The East Wing itself was a 20th-century add-on that had been rebuilt before. You can hate the ballroom. That's a fair opinion. "Destroying the White House" is a slogan.
The damage
FNN analysis: hyperbole is how outrage gets measured in clicks. Gallup's media trust number fell from 40% in 2020 to 28% in 2025. Every time an adjective outruns the photo, a few more readers decide the whole thing is theater. The agenda: turn a construction-permit fight into a national emergency.
Closer
It's a demolition story, not the fall of Rome. Same front door. Different ballroom.
