March 2021. Georgia passes SB 202. President Biden calls it "Jim Crow 2.0." Major League Baseball pulls the 2021 All-Star Game out of Atlanta. Cable news, CNN included, spent weeks on the voter-suppression frame (MIT Election Lab summarizes the reaction).

Receipt one: March 30, 2021. The Washington Post Fact Checker gave Biden Four Pinocchios for claiming the law ends voting hours early. Election Day hours stayed 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., and the law added a mandatory Saturday of early voting (WaPo, FactCheck.org).

Receipt two: Georgia's 2022 midterm set turnout records. A University of Georgia survey of 1,253 voters found 98.9% reported no problems voting. Among Black voters, 0% rated their experience poor, and 72.6% rated it excellent (UGA, via MIT Election Lab and CNS).

Hedge: researchers still argue over some provisions, like limits on drop boxes and the ban on handing out water in line. Debating a law is fine. Calling it Jim Crow, a system of terror and legal apartheid, was a lie of scale.

FNN analysis: Atlanta businesses, many of them Black-owned, lost All-Star Game revenue over a slogan. Then the turnout numbers came in, and the coverage moved on. Gallup's 2021 trust: 36%.
