2022 got quietly revised. The confidence never did.

The FBI quietly flipped a crime "decline" into an increase. The later years really did fall. Both facts belong on the page.

Violent Crime Down Under Biden/Harris Hoax
What they sold
Through 2024, the campaign line and a lot of coverage said violent crime was down under Biden-Harris. For 2022, the FBI's original numbers showed violent crime falling 2.1%.
What the record shows
Receipt one: in October 2024, RealClearInvestigations reported that the FBI's revised 2022 data turned that 2.1% drop into a 4.5% increase. The revision added about 80,029 violent offenses, including 1,699 murders that had been missed. It was a quiet revision of an important number, weeks before an election, and the media mostly let it slide.
Receipt two, because FNN doesn't cherry-pick: the FBI under the Trump administration reported in August 2025 that violent crime fell an estimated 4.5% from 2023 to 2024, with murder down 14.9%. It was the second straight year of decline (Reuters, FBI). Violent crime had spiked in 2020, under Trump.
So "crime is down" was true for 2023 and 2024 and false for 2022 as originally reported. The spin was treating early, incomplete numbers as gospel and not covering the correction.
The damage
FNN analysis: crime stats are a measurement problem first and a talking point second. When outlets repeat the first number and skip the revision, people trust what they see on their own block over the data, every time. Gallup's 2022 trust: 34%. 2025: 28%.
Closer
The data got revised. The coverage didn't. Report the correction as loud as the claim.
